Everyone sometimes just needs to use public Wi-Fi on their mobile devices. Sadly usually it is not comfortable and it just doesn’t feel safe.

Even childrens know that it’s forbidden to use public Wi-Fi network and check bank accounts or any other thing that contains private informations because it could be easily stolen. However, thanks to advances in technology there are coming changes that will make public Wi-Fi networks much more secure and convenient to use.

  1. What is a new hotspot 2.0?
  2. How to use Wi-Fi hotspots 2.0?

Let’s get to know a new WiFi network discovery, that could change the possibilities of using public WiFi.

What is a new hotspot 2.0?

The new WiFi hotspot 2.0 is also sometimes called “Passpoint”. It is a new standard in wireless network points. It was created to make new, better possibilities in using public access Wi-Fi, similar to cellular networks. It can be used with the latest version of Windows 10, macOS 10. 9, Android 6. 0, iOS 7 and their later releases. The goal of new hotspot 2.0 is to create worldwide Wi-Fi networks roaming, allowing devices to automatically connect to available networks in different countries with help of access network query protocol. It is safe, fast and really comfortable. It enables seamless roaming because devices will know which one of available networks is the Wi-Fi certified passpoint – you don’t need to choose, just do online sign up as always. Hotspot 2. 0 also allows hotspot providers to bundle their services with customer benefits. The most important thing about this new technology is however the safety of using it. The necessary encryption of the network gives much more security than before. This makes using public Wi-Fi less risky.

How to use Wi-Fi hotspots 2.0?

Basically hotspot 2.0 needs two things to work correctly: enable support for it on the WLAN and configure authentication server, for example towards your operator. Using it is for its users extremely easy and it can be done intentionally without any side knowledge. You just need to connect with chosen WiFi as always through your device. Then you need to log in and it’s all done. Later your device will automatically connect to the associated networks even if you will be in other places.

It is obvious that the new hotspot 2.0 will be a real hit nowadays. Using this kind of technological novelty is extremely beneficial not only for ordinary users, but also for network operators.  Probably Passpoint will become more and more popular and some day it will be generally available.
